Have you ever wondered what skin care routine your dermatologist follows? (Dermatologists specialize in skin health.) Dr. Erin Moore shares her daily skin care routine below.
My routine is fairly simple. It changes depending on the season and if I have had (or if I'm planning) a peel or other treatment. (Microneedling and ResurFX™ are my go-to maintenance treatments.)
The products below are listed in the order I put them on, unless stated differently.
Usually, you should put on thinner (serum) products first and use moisturizers last. The exceptions are medicated products. These should be applied first, except Retin A, which can be put over other products to lessen intensity.
Morning: Pre-workout
Splash water on your skin. Next, put on Skinceuticals® Retexturing Activator serum or EltaMD® AM Moisturizer.
Morning: Post-workout
Splash water on your skin in the shower. Next, put on:
- Finacea® Foam (to help stop rosacea)
- Neocutis® Journee Bio-restorative Day Cream with Broad spectrum SPF 30 (workday) or EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 (weekend)
If my face is feeling dry, I will add Neocutis Biocream after the Finacea. If my complexion needs a little smoothing, I'll add a little Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation.
Evening
At night, wash with:
- The Perfect Cleanser
- Cetaphil® Gentle Cleanser
- Finacea Foam
- Neocutis Lumiere Eye Cream
- Neocutis Biocream
I use Skinceuticals retinol (.5 or 1 percent) or Perfect A (prescription strength Retin A with Vitamin C) two to three days per week. I put retinol on under the moisturizer because it's not as strong. I put Perfect A over the moisturizer to lessen intensity.
For body cream, I use Cetaphil (in the tub). For hands, I use Cetaphil or Neutrogena® Norwegian Hand Formula. I use Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser as body cleanser.
Sometimes this routine changes when I'm trying a new product or after a treatment. Then, I use only Cetaphil cleanser, Neocutis Biocream or even Vaseline®.
If you have seen my purple product sheet in the office, be assured I have tested or used all the products.
