Infertility is defined as having regular, unprotected sex without getting pregnant for:

  • One year, if you're under the age of 35
  • Six months, if you're age 35 or older

If you’re concerned that you’re infertile, talk with your doctor. Causes of infertility can generally be broken into three categories of causes:

  • Female
  • Male
  • Unknown

The Polyclinic obstetrics and gynecology doctors will work with you to find out why you haven’t been able to get pregnant.

Steps vary by patient and may include:

  • Physical exams
  • Complete review of your health history
  • Ultrasound of the lower belly
  • Blood tests
  • Hysterosalpingogram (dye test of the uterus and fallopian tubes)
  • Sperm count (measures the quality of a man’s semen and sperm)

Our goal is to identify the reasons for infertility, offer treatment options and/or suggest further testing.

We also offer basic treatments to help with infertility. These include:

  • Lifestyle changes
  • Medications
  • Intrauterine insemination (sperm is placed in the uterus with a small straw)
  • Some surgeries

For more complex cases, we’ll refer you to a specialist for more testing and treatments.
